All sessions are confidential.
I will sometimes make notes after a session. These are my private notes and they will be kept in a secure place. Notes will be destroyed 1 year after counselling has finished.
I attend regular supervision sessions with a professional supervisor. Supervisors are trained to help and oversee a counsellors work. This is to ensure that any professional issues and personal difficulties I have are attended to. It also ensures that I am practising in a safe and ethical way. Supervisors are bound by the same confidentiality rules.
There are very rare occasions where I may need to discuss our sessions with someone else. This will always be discussed with you first.
This may happen in the following circumstances –
- If I believe there to be a threat to your life, or that of someone else.
- If ordered to do so by a court of law.
Stopping counselling
- We will usually agree on a certain number of sessions and review the decision on a regular basis. However you can stop at any time.
Cancellation
I ask that my clients give me 24 hours notice if they need to cancel a session. If less notice is given you will be charged for the missed session unless there are extenuating circumstances.
I am a member of the National Counselling Society and abide by their codes of conduct and ethical framework.
